About italic text generator

Why it works without a formatting toolbar

Italic formatting normally lives in the app you typed it in and disappears the moment you copy the text elsewhere. Unicode italic characters are different — the slant is baked into the character itself, so it travels wherever the text goes.

One letter behaves differently

Lowercase 'h' uses a separate, older Unicode symbol (ℎ) instead of following the same numbering pattern as the rest of the italic alphabet, a quirk left over from how the block was standardized.

Where to use it

Italic Unicode text is handy for emphasis in bios, captions, and comments on platforms that don't support markdown or rich text formatting.

Frequently asked

Does this affect SEO or accessibility?

No — screen readers and search engines see these as distinct characters, not as an 'italic' instruction, so use real HTML <em> or <i> tags for anything that needs to be indexed or read aloud correctly.

Why don't numbers change when I convert them?

Unicode never defined a separate italic number set, so digits are left as-is in the output.

Can I combine italic with bold?

Yes — use the dedicated Bold Italic generator instead, which applies both styles from a single Unicode block rather than stacking two separate conversions.
